The current menu includes Head & Sinus Relief, Neck & Shoulder Relief, and Scalp Therapy Ritual. These provide different focused appointments for guests seeking comfort around the head, neck, and shoulders. They are spa service names rather than a diagnosis or a promise to resolve a headache disorder.

We are at 5871 Kanan Rd, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, open every day from 10 AM to 9 PM. The current booking system is Booker. Check the service, duration, price, and available start time there before reserving.

First, definitions. A tension-type headache is the everyday one — the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) describes it as usually mild-to-moderate pain, felt on both sides, a steady pressure like a belt cinched a notch too tight around the skull. No one-sided throbbing. No aura, no nausea. Stress makes the muscles of the neck, face, scalp, and jaw clench, and that clench settles right where a therapist's thumbs can reach — which is also why the case for booking overlaps so heavily with plain neck-and-shoulder tension.

What the evidence actually says (and where it thins out)

Here's the part most spa pages skip. Direct evidence for massage on the headache itself? Thin. NCCIH — the federal center that actually reviews this stuff — comes right out and says there are only a small number of studies on massage for headache, and the results are all over the map.

One trial in particular is a gut check. Back in 2015, a randomized study put 56 people with tension headaches through trigger-point massage versus a sham treatment — a detuned ultrasound wand that did precisely nothing — twice a week for six weeks. Headache frequency fell in both groups. No meaningful gap between the real hands and the fake machine. And when a placebo keeps pace with the real thing, the relief people felt clearly wasn't coming from the technique. So anyone selling massage for tension headaches as a guaranteed fix is skipping the fine print.

So why bother at all? Because the evidence one step to the side is sturdier. Massage has short-term research support for plain neck and shoulder pain — and a knotted, overloaded neck is a common driver behind the headache in the first place. A 2014 trial followed 228 people with chronic neck pain: 60-minute sessions two to three times a week produced real improvement, while 30-minute sessions didn't. Dose mattered. That's the honest case for coming in — we work the muscles we can measurably help, and the headache often tags along for the ride. It's the same logic behind booking a session for stress and anxiety: the state you leave in does some of the lifting.

We don't sell a headache cure. We work the neck and shoulders that are often the reason it's there.

Where we actually work: the neck and shoulder trigger points

Tell the therapist "neck and shoulders" and we build the whole session around it. The usual suspects: the upper trapezius (that ridge between neck and shoulder that turns to concrete when you're stressed), the suboccipitals tucked right under the base of the skull, and the levator scapulae running up the side of the neck. These are the exact spots the Mayo Clinic names for at-home self-massage of "the temples, scalp, neck and shoulders." We just do it with more reach and steadier pressure than your own arms can manage — and if the tissue's stubborn, a deep tissue approach lets us hold the tight bands longer.

What a neck-focused session actually looks like

Staying safe — and the warning signs that mean skip the spa

Two safety layers, and they're not equal. The first is on the table: pressure. Firmer isn't automatically better. Near the neck especially, deep work is one of those spots where too much force adds risk without adding a shred of benefit — so you should never feel real pain during the session. A little tenderness the next day? Normal. Sharp pain in the moment is your cue to say "lighter, please," and any therapist worth their oil eases off before you finish the sentence.

Worth saying while we're on credentials: many California cities require massage professionals to be CAMTC-certified (California Massage Therapy Council) — you're welcome to ask about your therapist's credentials when you book. No good studio blinks at that question.

The second layer matters more. Not every headache is a tension headache, and reaching for massage for tension headaches when it's something else can burn time you can't spare. NINDS lists specific warning signs that mean see a clinician, not a therapist — read the box below, and when in doubt, call your doctor first. We're a massage studio. We don't diagnose a thing, and we'll be the first to tell you to make that call.

One more honest note. A big chunk of why people leave feeling better isn't the hands at all — it's the dim quiet room, a full hour with the phone face-down in a cubby. If your headaches trace back to stress, thin sleep, or hunching at a screen with your shoulders parked up by your ears all day, the massage is one useful piece. Not the whole fix. Water, steadier sleep, and easing off the afternoon caffeine binges do quiet work between visits.

Common questions

Before you book

How hard should the pressure be?
Firm enough to reach the knot. Not so hard you're bracing against the table. You should never be gritting your teeth — that's the whole rule. Deep-tissue work near the neck is one of those spots where more pressure buys more risk, not more benefit, so speak up the second something crosses from "good sore" into actual pain. Next-day tenderness? Can be normal. Sharp pain mid-session? Not — say so, and we ease off on the spot.
Which service should I choose?
Use the named services and prices below, then call the spa if you are unsure about the focus or appointment length. Tell the team about relevant conditions and comfort preferences before treatment.
Does this replace medical care?
No. These guides provide general wellness information. A spa service does not diagnose a condition or replace care from a qualified health professional.
How do I book?
